The weekend is for having knocked a window curtain down this morning and, while trying to put it back up, realizing it’s ridiculous you still use the last tenant’s curtains and determining to go buy new curtains. Also, video games.
I’ve been playing the same fight in Thronebreaker, Gwent’s standalone story, for a few hours now. I still haven’t beaten it. In most games, that would make me frustrated with myself or furious at the designers. But thanks to Thronebreaker’s unique mechanics, I’m itching to keep trying.
Fortnite will be getting in-game tournaments starting October 16, Epic has announced, in which players will compete to earn points. The first tournament will be solos, with duos and squads to follow. Players won’t be separated by input device, and match-making will “pair players with similar point standings.”
The weekend is for being pretty pumped about how it’s suddenly become fall in New York, and also regretting that I neglected to get my coat cleaned before it turned coat weather. The weekend is also for video games.

The weekend is also for getting overwhelmed by that task and playing video games…
Of all the many valid reasons I’m still playing The Witcher 3, there’s one that’s not related to the game’s quality. If I put it down for too long, I’ll completely forget how to play. It’s a problem that extends to every game I own. I recently discovered a game in my Steam library that lets me replay the tutorial…
The weekend is for finally getting some alone time after weeks of travel and house guests, which means drinking whiskey in the bath while watching Anthony Bourdain episodes. Also, video games.

October’s PlayStation Plus lineup is a bit of a range. Friday the 13th is good for some co-op scares, and there’s also some indie gems in The Bridge and Read Only Memories. As always, these games are only “free” if you have an active PlayStation Plus subscription.
Vampyr’s new difficulty modes are live today. When starting a new game, players can select Story mode, which de-emphasizes combat, or Hard mode, which makes combat tougher and reduces XP gained from defeating enemies.
