My friend paid me for the 400 and th350 out of the xjs today so now i can rip it apart and take all the v8 swap stuff out and it put it in my sedan. But don’t worry you’ll see the xjs again, perhaps with a junkyard LS and an ebay spooly boi slammed in it.

I think I got the xjs running about as good as I can get it with a 10 year old holley with an out-of-box tune. Probaly doesn’t help that it has the smog era ramhorn manifolds and one of the rear brakes is dragging.

Things I have learned today

Number 1: the xjs will not run unless it has at least 2 gallons of gas in it, I assume because it only has a mechanical fuel pump now.

I took the carb apart, got the secondaries freed up and messed with the timing a little bit. Runs a lot better now although it’s still a dog, feels more like a 289 than it does a 400 but I think a good italian tune up will fix it. I just need to something with the brakes first as they’re just a tad bit sketchy right…

And it’s a mechanical creampuff, fired right up after i put a fresh battery and gas in it, barely even smoked, of course being a chevy swap that’s to be expected no? Only issues so far is the secondaries on the carb are stupid stuck shut I’ll probably have to dissemble it to free them.
