What About Bob? (1991) What About Bob? (1991)

Early morning movie coming up on Laff. Bill Murray, Julie Hagerty, Richard Dreyfuss. Directed by Frank Oz. Murray and Dreyfuss hated each other. Lots of Frank Oz movies had tension.

Memorial Day MacLean Memorial Day MacLean

Alistair MacLean. The Guns of Navarone, Where Eagles Dare, Ice Station Zebra, Breakheart Pass, Force 10 from Navarone, and many more.

Ruthless People (1986) Ruthless People (1986)

Stakeout (1987) Stakeout (1987)

Coming up late night on Laff. I slept for three hours earlier. Directed by John Badham. Madeleine Stowe, Emilio Estevez, Richard Dreyfuss. A big surprise hit and top ten earner for the year. Spawned a sequel.

Breathless (1983) Breathless (1983)

A kind of interesting if polarizing movie. On this-TV after Semi-Tough last night. Directed by Jim McBride. Remake of the Godard film. Richard Gere is a big Silver Surfer fan and it pops up several times. Not surprisingly this is one of Tarantino’s favorite movies. All I remembered was the color red. If you’ve seen it…

Semi-Tough (1977) Semi-Tough (1977)

Playing on this-TV. Directed by Michael Ritchie. Burt Reynolds, Kris Kristofferson, Jill Clayburgh. From the book by Dan Jenkins. What should have been a good football movie ruined by all the EST crap. Same mistake made by the TV show The Americans. It’s not interesting. Good book though. Stick to football.

Coneheads (1993) Coneheads (1993)

Playing on Laff. Underrated. For an SNL movie, very underrated. Good cast. Michael McKean and David Spade are great as the bumbling immigration agents.

Police Academy Promos and TV Spots Police Academy Promos and TV Spots

Nathan Rabin has reviewed a couple of the sequels recently and the original was in the top ten earners of 1984. Big hit. (Now with more Guttenberg. Added a couple of interviews and Random Roles. And Tim Kazurinsky. Always liked that guy.)

It's Not Easy Being a Hollywood Caveman It's Not Easy Being a Hollywood Caveman

Me want points, and merchandising, and three fat pigs.

Iceman (1984) Iceman (1984)

I caught this on late night TV or cable many years ago and loved it. Harlan Ellison is also a fan according to Wiki. All but forgotten now. Timothy Hutton, John Lone, Lindsay Crouse. Directed by Fred Schepisi. I had bookmarked it on Youtube a couple of years ago and it got deleted before I could watch it. Another up…

Streets of Fire (1984) Streets of Fire (1984)

Honky Tonk Freeway (1981) Honky Tonk Freeway (1981)

One of the biggest flops in history. Directed by John Schlesinger. I saw it in the theater. Dying Florida town tries to attract tourists. Beverly Hills Cop (1984) Beverly Hills Cop (1984)

Directed by Martin Brest. I don’t know what made me want to watch this again. May have been a song in my head. It has been a while. Jonathan Banks, Bronson Pinchot, John Ashton, Judge Reinhold. A huge, big hit. Stallone was originally supposed to star and that story eventually became Cobra.

Night Flight Night Flight

Welcome to Night Flight. Your weekend open thread. Billy Jack.

The China Syndrome (1979) The China Syndrome (1979)

70s paranoia theme comes back. Directed by James Bridges. Jack Lemmon, Michael Douglas, Jane Fonda.

A Year in Film: 1979  A Year in Film: 1979

A year. Sometimes I will watch a movie because of the director, or the star, occasionally the year. Sometimes you just have to go with the theme. A good year, I think. I was still seeing a lot of movies in the theater. *(Updated with early Kinja 1979.)

Logan's Run (1976) Logan's Run (1976)

Director Michael Anderson died at 98. I have the DVD and thought the first hour is fine but it starts to drag eventually. Michael York, Richard Jordan, Jenny Agutter.

Highlander (1986) Highlander (1986)

My favorite thing about this movie has always been the crazy camera work. They tried a little bit of everything. Another good commentary playing now. This DVD (Director Cut) has about 50 preview trailers you have to skip to get to the main menu.

Starship Troopers (1997) Starship Troopers (1997)

Directed by Paul Verhoeven. (Listening to the DVD commentary now. Verhoeven does good commentaries. I have several of them.)

The Amityville Horror (1979) The Amityville Horror (1979)

Coming up tonight on this-TV. James Brolin, Margot Kidder. Directed by Stuart Rosenberg.
