Do you like listening to us on the AniTAY podcast? Perhaps you’ve only read some of our articles. Either way, this may be the event for you. AniTAY is scheduled to host a couple of panels this spring. If you’re planning to attend these conventions or live in the area, feel free to stop by!
Note: This article will be updated with final times when convention schedules are finalized. Additional events may potentially be added as well.
Anime of the Present and Future
Time: 1:00 PM March 16th
Panelists: Protonstorm, Raitzeno, DilKokoro
Description: You’ve seen all the past hits, but do you know about the up-and-coming ones? There are dozens of new anime currently airing, and most of them are easily available legally for streaming online. Listen to AniTAY.org bloggers Protonstorm, Raitzeno and Dilkokoro inadvertently reveal our trash taste in anime as we attempt to navigate the sea of the good, bad and ugly of currently-airing and upcoming anime series in this interactive fan panel!
An Introduction to Japanese History
Time: 7:00 PM March 16th
Description: You’ve seen the anime, but have you read the source material? Because anime is often produced and takes place in Japan, there are numerous references to Japanese culture and history in many series that can go unnoticed by an audience more accustomed to American history. Instead of just giving names and dates, I will be presenting Japanese history as an epic story whose newest chapters are still being written today. In this panel, I will address questions from where the Japanese people originated to why the shogunate collapsed. Questions are permitted and encouraged!
Additional, non-AniTAY Panel I am hosting:
For the Love of Language: A Beginner’s Guide to Studying Japanese
Time: 5:30 PM March 16th
Panelists: Protonstorm, other individuals not affiliated with AniTAY
Description: Have you ever considered studying Japanese? In the age of the internet, there are (too) many resources out there for the prospective student and it can be hard to make sense of it all. As students of Japanese at the University of Kansas, we know the feeling of being a beginner at such a daunting task. Join us as we tell our personal stories of how we learned the language and culture, while providing some strategies and resources for learning both as a student at a university and as a self-learner. There will be a Q&A towards the end, so feel free to ask us any personal questions you have about learning Japanese!
